TOPIC 1: Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Using the evidence-based guidelines from the CDC, IDSA and SHEA, upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: EBM, GL, COMP
- Evaluate the epidemiology of MRSA.
- Diagnose the important infections caused by MRSA.
- Analyze the risk factors and outcomes associated with MRSA control.
- Appropriately treat MRSA infections.
TOPIC 2: Adult Immunizations.
Upon completion of this session, using IDSA, ACIP, CDC and ACP evidence-based guidelines and recommendations, the participant should be able to: EBM, GL, COMP
- Prescribe appropriate vaccines for the following vaccine preventable diseases:
- Hepatitis A;
- Hepatitis B;
- Varicella-Zoster;
- Meningococcus;
- Human Papilloma Virus.
TOPIC 3: Tuberculosis Update.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: COMP
- Appraise how the changing epidemiology of tuberculosis has impacted the incidence of the disease in the U.S.
- Detect and manage latent tuberculosis infection, including appropriate use of gamma-interferon release assays.
- Apply the principles of treatment of TB disease, specify how to increase medication adherence, and detect adverse drug reactions.
- Differentiate patient characteristics to anticipate multi-drug resistance.
