TOPIC 1:
Pediatric Immunization Update and Challenges of Vaccine Refusal.
Upon completion of this session, using information published by the CDC and AAP, the participant should be able to:GL, COMP
- Describe the relevant epidemiology of specific vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Appropriately use vaccines according to ACIP and AAP recommendations.
- Incorporate and apply the significant changes and updates to the current ACIP/AAP recommendations
- Approach the problem of vaccine refusal and provide clinical strategies to effect parental education and cooperation.
TOPIC 2:
Improving Medical Decision Making: Patient Safety and Strategies to Avoid Diagnostic Errors.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Acknowledge that relying on pattern recognition and memory and making snap judgments may lead to diagnostic errors.
- Explain the cognitive errors that physicians make most frequently.
- Develop an approach to medical decision making that will help prevent committing diagnostic errors.
TOPIC 3:
Medical Errors in Pediatrics.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: EBM, COMP
- Demonstrate root cause analysis and perform it on cases of medical errors that involve children.
- Assess specific, evidence-based risks for medication errors and strategies to reduce their occurrence.
- Review issues in sleep physiology that relate to medical error risks, and make evidence-based recommendations for sleep management.
