TOPIC 1: The Neurological Examination.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: COMP
- Organize the disparate parts of the neurologic examination into a personally relevant, manageable and reproducible diagnostic tool.
- Perform a concise screening neurologic exam for asymptomatic patients.
- Perform a problem-tailored neurologic exam for patients with neurologic complaints.
- Obtain maximum yield from the examination of a patient with an altered mental status.
TOPIC 2: Knee Examination- A Practical Hands-On Approach.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: COMP
- Identify the relevant anatomy of the knee
- Demonstrate key physical exam findings of the knee including:
- Inspection
- Palpation
- Range of motion
- Special tests (Lachman, Anterior drawer, Valgus/Varus stress, Patellar apprehension, McMurray, Apley, Thessaly)
TOPIC 3: Shoulder Examination – A Practical Hands-On Approach.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: COMP
- Discuss relevant anatomy of the shoulder
- Demonstrate the components of the shoulder examination
- Discuss shoulder examination findings which help differentiate between rotator cuff pathology, instability of the glenohumeral joint and labral pathology
