    Can I Take This Medication?: Doping Considerations When Prescribing to Athletes

    Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:

    • Review concepts regarding anti-doping in athletes with respect to WADA, USADA, NCAA
    • Identify on-line reputable sources to check if a medication is banned in an athlete’s sport
    • Develop strategies to utilize a TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption) application
    • Review common medications that are banned or have restricted use in athletes

    The Forgotten Large Organ: Common Dermatological Conditions in Athletes

    Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:

    • Diagnose and manage skin conditions common in athletes
    • Review skin conditions commonly found in specific sports.
    • Utilize the “return-to-play” guidelines defined by various sports organizations in the United States, such as the National Federation of High schools (NFHS) and the National Collegiate athletics Association (NCAA).
    • Recommend prevention strategies that may be employed to thwart the spread of certain
    • dermatologic conditions common in sports.

    Beyond the X-ray

    Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:

    • Review the methodology of basic x-ray interpretation of bones & joints utilizing the Rule of Two guidelines
    • Recognize the often “atypical” presentation of bony pathology in adolescent athletes-Case Studies
    • Review additional case studies in athletes and young adults with atypical imaging findings

    RED-S. Relative energy deficiency syndrome.

    Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:

    • Define common terms used in defining REDs
    • Review the 2023 IOC consensus statement on REDs
    • Compare the characteristics of OTS (Overtraining syndrome) and REDs (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport)

    Fatigue in Athletes

    Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:

    • The participant will be able to discuss the differential diagnosis of fatigue in the elite athlete
    • The participant will be able to discuss the work up of the athlete with fatigue
    • The participant will be able to discuss the role of iron deficiency in the athlete with fatigue
    • The participant will be able to list some of the health outcomes of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport
    • The participant will be able to discuss the concepts of over-reaching versus overtraining in the athlete
