  3. Counsel patients when to consider glucosamine, chondroitin, supplements, icing,  bracing, acupuncture, and surgery.
  4. Determine when visco supplements or cortisone injection may be helpful.

TOPIC 2: Pearls and Pitfalls of Diagnosis of Sports Medicine Injuries

Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to:COMP

  1. Detect and refer hand injuries that may require urgent surgical referral.
  2. Perform the most effective tests for De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.
  3. Distinguish ankle sprains from high ankle sprains.
  4. Evaluate foot injuries for Lis Franc sprain.

TOPIC 3: Pearls of the Evaluation and Management of Hip Pain

Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: COMP

  1. Determine the etiology of greater trochanteric hip pain.
  2. Consider differential diagnosis of anterior hip pain in adult and pediatric patients.
  3. Select physical examination techniques or tests to best evaluate hip pain.
  4. Develop treatment plans for hip pain.
