Using the evidence-based guidelines from the CDC, IDSA and SHEA, upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: EBM, GL, COMP

  1. Evaluate the epidemiology of MRSA.
  2. Diagnose the important infections caused by MRSA.
  3. Analyze the risk factors and outcomes associated with MRSA control.
  4. Appropriately treat MRSA infections.

TOPIC 2: Adult Immunizations.
Upon completion of this session, using IDSA, ACIP, CDC and ACP evidence-based guidelines and recommendations, the participant should be able to: EBM, GL, COMP

  1. Prescribe appropriate vaccines for the following vaccine preventable diseases:
    1. Hepatitis A;
    2. Hepatitis B;
    3. Varicella-Zoster;
    4. Meningococcus;
    5. Human Papilloma Virus.

TOPIC 3: Tuberculosis Update.
Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to: COMP

  1. Appraise how the changing epidemiology of tuberculosis has impacted the incidence of the disease in the U.S.
  2. Detect and manage latent tuberculosis infection, including appropriate use of gamma-interferon release assays.
  3. Apply the principles of treatment of TB disease, specify how to increase medication adherence, and detect adverse drug reactions.
  4. Differentiate patient characteristics to anticipate multi-drug resistance.
